Exciting news from Walt Disney World was announced on June 25th. A significant update to the existing Genie+ service, the line-skipping feature, has been announced. Previously, Disney hinted at allowing guests to make their Lightning Lane reservations in advance for better vacation planning. This change, along with a renaming of the Genie+ service, will take effect this summer.

Keep reading for all the details on this change, including the introduction of pre-arrival Lightning Lane bookings, the starting date, and our thoughts on why this is a positive shift!

The revamped Genie+ system will be known as the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and the Individual Lightning Lane service will be renamed Lightning Lane Single Pass. This rebranding applies to both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, but the primary changes focus on Walt Disney World. If you remember FastPass+, you'll notice some familiar features in this update.

While constant changes can be tiring, I believe this one is a positive move that guests will appreciate. The return of advance ride reservations has been hinted at for some time, and this new update feels like a welcome return to the best aspects of the former FastPass+ system.

FastPass+ was beloved for allowing guests to plan ride reservations in advance, ensuring shorter lines for favorite attractions. Since its removal, the guarantee of shorter wait times has been missed. Genie+ has faced challenges at Walt Disney World, with limited attractions per park and quickly running out of available times. The new Lightning Lane Multi Pass addresses these issues by reintroducing advance bookings.

The biggest change is the ability to make Lightning Lane reservations in advance, similar to FastPass+. Guests purchasing the Lightning Lane Multi Pass can make up to three selections in advance for each day, choosing from various available times. This guarantees at least three Lightning Lane reservations per park day, a feature many guests missed.

Once in the park, guests can make additional selections using the My Disney Experience app, similar to the current Genie+ system. The Individual Lightning Lane service, now called Lightning Lane Single Pass, will also allow advance purchases.

The return of advance booking through the Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a game-changer for Disney guests, providing much-needed ease and certainty in planning park days. This shift promises to enhance the overall experience, bringing back the beloved elements of the FastPass+ system while improving upon the existing Genie+ service. The new Lightning Lane Multi Pass will replace the Genie+ service and Lightning Lane Single Pass starting on July 24th. Disney Resort guests will be able to start planning and booking rides 7 days prior to arrival, while off-property guests can begin booking reservations 3 days in advance. Unfortunately, guests arriving and staying on property on July 24th will still have to wait until that date to use the new system. However, things are constantly changing, please refer to the Disney website for more the most updated information prior to your visit.
